Book #1 from the series: The Fogkeeper Chronicles

The Fogkeeper’s Curse

About

The fog in Havenport isn’t just mist—it’s alive.

Evelyn Cross thought she had escaped the darkness, but when a teenage girl vanishes without a trace, she’s pulled into a mystery that refuses to stay buried. The town sheriff calls it a runaway, the locals whisper about old legends, and warnings scrawled in smeared ink urge her to stay out of the fog. But Evelyn knows the truth is hidden in the mist—and it’s waiting for her.

As she follows the trail, she discovers an unsettling pattern—every few years, someone disappears. No witnesses. No answers. Just the echo of a name lost to time. The deeper she digs, the more the town turns against her, and the more the fog creeps closer. It moves with purpose. It watches. It remembers.

And now, it has its sights on her.

Gripping, atmospheric, and utterly unputdownable, The Fogkeeper’s Curse is a chilling psychological thriller that will leave you breathless. The first novella in The Fogkeeper Chronicles, this is only the beginning of a terrifying mystery that won’t let go.

Praise for this book

In The Fogkeeper's Curse by William Wayne, a fog envelops a small town and its inhabitants. Evelyn Cross doesn't fully believe the stories about a supernatural fogkeeper in Havenport, but she understands the tale could have an element of truth. Fixated on a local teenager's disappearance, Evelyn puts her skills in journalism to the test. With her friend, Ellie, a local librarian, Evelyn uncovers an ancient secret layer by layer. What Evelyn and Ellie discover is deeper than foggy streets and mysterious disappearances, and causes them to unite the townspeople in an attempt to restore the balance. They race to find the missing girls and even though they seem to find the cause of the fog, their town may not be out of danger. In fact, as long as an infection permeates the land, Havenport may never be safe.

Many questions run through your mind as Evelyn races to find the reason behind the fog. William Wayne guards his secrets well, and you won't be able to guess what lies beneath the fog or when it will be revealed. If you lead a busy life, the short chapters will be ideal, or you can settle in on a cold evening and devour the book from beginning to end. I felt like I had a weekend trip to Havenport and was right by Evelyn's side as she searched for clues to end the town's curse. Wayne is chillingly expressive and gives depth to the mystery in less than one hundred pages. The suspense was satisfying, and the story was original. This is a good way to sample the author's writing style, as his focused descriptions and dialog will lure you into the story, much like the fog draws curious souls. Readers who enjoy dark supernatural forces and strong female protagonists will love The Fogkeeper's Curse.
